There has been a bowling club in Crosthwaite for very many years with members playing on the Vicarage lawn. Apparently, several of the Vicars were keen bowlers! When the Vicarage was sold, the Landowners of Crosthwaite and Lyth bought the field opposite the Village Hall and leased it for a peppercorn rent to the Recreation Field Trust. The bowling green, a tennis court, a pavilion and a play area for the children was built. Much hard work went into what is now a very valuable asset.
