Crosthwaite Community News report March 7th 2019
Argles Memorial Hall AGM takes place on Saturday April 29th in the meeting room at the Hall at 6.30pm, followed by a ‘Quiz and Pudding’ social evening at 7.30pm. These unusual arrangements have been made to enable the community to come together after the meeting to mark the retirements of 3 members of the management committee- Chairman Jim Bownass, Vice Chair Marilyn Shuttleworth and Treasurer Gordon Pitt, all of whom have given many years of service to the village.
Further details of the event are on the parish website, www.crosthwaiteandlyth.co.uk, and tickers can be obtained from Judy Goodland, on firstname.lastname@example.org.
One post on the Management Committee remains vacant after these retirements, and Secretary Anne Douglas is keen to hear from anyone who feels they can contribute in any way to the running of this very worthwhile village institution. Email email@example.com.
Doug Blair has singlehandedly planted and managed Millenium Wood in the village for almost 20 years. Doug would appreciate some help with this task, and would like to hear from anyone keen to get involved on a regular or casual basis, either with maintenance tasks or one off projects. Contact Doug on 015395 68441.
Clarification by Dougie Blair
I wish to make a correction to the Crosthwaite section of the Community News in the 7th March edition of the Westmorland Gazette. The trees in the Jubilee Wood were planted by the villagers and not by me, but I arranged the project and have looked after the wood since then. The Woodland Trust gifted the trees to the village. John Walker and John Grindley put the posts in prior to our joint planting day. I was very grateful to everyone who helped to make that day a great success. Douglas Blair
Two Valleys food bank representative Pat Howarth would like to receive donations of particular ‘shortage’ food items during the season of Lent, and dates have been identified for donations of these items. March 10th, sponge puddings, March 17th, microwave rice, March 24th, tinned rice pudding, March 31st, instant noodles or pasta. These can be taken to one of the donation points which are any Two Valleys Church, Witherslack Community Shop or Crosthwaite Village Hall. Further details from Pat Howarth on 015395 68625.
