Crosthwaite Community News report - 30th November 2018


Crosthwaite Christmas Fair takes place in the Argles Memorial Hall, from 10am- 12noon on Saturday December 1st. Santa will be there, along with popular craft and food stalls including Appleby Creamery Cheeses, Savin Hill Meats and WI home made cakes and produce. Children will be able to make a party hat and join in a parade, with prizes for the best efforts. Children from Crosthwaite School will be singing festive songs, and there will be mulled wine, mince pies, teas, a raffle and tombola. Admission is 50p.

There will be no Lunch at Crosthwaite Exchange Cafe on Wednesday 5th December. The Exchange will open for tea, coffee and cakes as usual from 2pm.

Crosthwaite and Lyth WI held their AGM on Wednesday November 21st. President Jean Sherratt gave a summary of an extremely busy 90th birthday year for the branch, which has been marked by many special events including celebratory lunches, parties, a murder mystery evening and theatre trips.
Jean, and Treasurer Pat Howarth, both retired at the end of their respective three year periods of office as President and Treasurer, and both were thanked for their hard work and dedication, particularly in this special anniversary year.
Their roles have been filled by Kath Edwards, Treasurer, and Denise Park and Anne Douglas who will serve as Co-Presidents. Member Mary Rockliffe's name was entered into the Federation Memorial Bursary book, and a donation made in her memory, as a permanent record of her valued WI membership over very many years.

P.V Dobson are holding a Christmas Fair in aid of Martin House Children's Hospice at their car showroom on Thursday December 6th, 6-9pm.
