Crosthwaite Community News report - 11th October 2018

 

Crosthwaite and Lyth WI are holding their Open Meeting at Argles Memorial Hall on Wednesday October 17th,at 8pm, to which all are welcome. Mr Andrew Vickers from South Lakeland District Council will be talking about ‘Recycling— Rubbish Matters’, There will also be a stall run by Silverdale WI highlighting microplastic fibres, and a display that features alternatives to single use plastic. The cost is £2.50, which includes light refreshments.
Crosthwaite and Lyth members are also hosting a special ‘Murder Mystery’ themed Group Meeting, to which members of other local WIs are invited, on October 22nd. There will be two competitions to be entered on the night, one for the most ingenious method of murder- this may be a written submission or an implement, and a floral arrangement suitable for the Crosthwaite Exchange.

Indoor Short Mat Bowling has recommenced for the winter season. Members meet at Argles Memorial Hall every Tuesday and Thursday evening from7.30-10pm, until the end of March. The group is welcoming new members to join them for a little light exercise, fun and friendly company with tea and biscuits. All equipment is provided, only flat shoes required. Boxes of Hope, Cumbria send thousands of brightly coloured, gift filled shoe boxes to children living in poverty in Romania every Christmas, many of whom have never received a gift before. Collection dates for filled shoeboxes for the Two Valleys are between November 1st and 12th. Crosthwaite Christmas Fair takes place on Saturday December 1st, 10am- 12pm. Stalls are available at £7.00 each, contact Marilyn Shuttleworth on 015395 68522 for details. Orders are currently being taken for boxes of Appleby Creamery Christmas Cheese Assortment, which will be available for collection at the Fair. These can be pre ordered at a cost of £15 each, from Ann Smith on 015395 68671, for collection on the day.
