Crosthwaite Community News report 30th August and
6th September 2018
Crosthwaite and Lyth Bowling Club played their Smith Cup Competition on August 18th. The winner was Barbara Cleasby, runner up Brian Cleasby. The Trophy was presented by Penny Blair, Competition Secretary and members enjoyed a Jacob’s Join lunch.
Crosthwaite Show Committee would like to remind entrants that the deadline for entries is Tuesday September 4th. Classes are open to all those living in the Parish of Crosthwaite and Lyth and the adjoining parishes of Underbarrow, Crook, Witherslack, Winster, Bowland Bridge, Brigsteer and Helsington, Levens and members of Village organisations.
Entry forms and fees must be submitted at Argles Memorial Hall on Tuesday Sept 4th between 7pm and 9pm, or may be delivered or posted to Pat Howarth, Scarsdale, Crosthwaite, LA8 8HR by 12noon on Tuesday September 4th. There is an extra opportunity for children’s entries to be made, from 3-5pm on Thursday September 6th at Argles Memorial Hall.

Children’s entries are particular welcome. Matchboxes for the ‘how many interesting things can you fit in a matchbox’ category are available to collect from Mrs Metcalf at Crosthwaite Primary School when school reopens after the Summer break.
The Committee also wish to remind last year’s cup and trophy winners that trophies are to be returned by Tuesday September 4th, either directly to Pat Howarth, or to the Memorial Hall between 7 and 9pm.
Crosthwaite Show update (6 Sept.).
Crosthwaite Show takes place at Argles Memorial Hall on Saturday 8th September from 2pm.
Entry is £1.50 on the door, and this year there are 90 classes of entry, including flowers, fruit and vegetables, floral art, painting photography, domestic arts, handicrafts and several new childrens’ classes.
There will be face painting and children’s activities including a quiz and puzzles. Refreshments will be on sale, courtesy of the excellent bakers of the WI. There are 12 high quality raffle prizes, including meal vouchers from several local pubs and restaurants. At the end of the show, some of the produce, preserves, flowers and baking which has been exhibited will be offered in exchange for a donation, so please stay until the end and claim your raffle prizes and grab a bargain!
Westmorland Damson Association
Westmorland Damson Association is looking for interested people to join their Executive Committee. In particular the WDA is looking for a treasurer and secretary- both positions carry a small allowance. Please contact John Holmes on 015395 68599,
